Driven, dynamic, diversified and dedicated are key qualities which mark Gary Smyth's approach to healthcare and medicine.
He has been a Doctor for the past 18 years, of which the past 9 have been as a Portfolio GP. He has an impressive breadth and depth of medical experience, which combined with his previous work in both the NHS and Private Sectors, have provided him with a unique perspective on healthcare. In addition, he has demonstrated a broad range of non-medical experience, the cumulative effect of which is a transferable set of skills which he continues to actively refine.
He has an interest in whole person medicine, holistic health and well-being. His constant drive towards diversification, innovation and thinking “outside the box” led him to realise the restrictions and limitations of current medical approaches. His quest to rediscover “the Art of Medicine” led him to discover the healing art of homeopathic medicine. He now integrates homeopathy alongside his conventional practice and is recognised as a leading voice within the homeopathic profession.
Speaking on how he developed an interest in homeopathy, Gary stated: 'Scientific curiosity first led me to enrol on a course with the Faculty of Homeopathy. I was astounded and impressed by the discovery of a way to deliver healthcare which embraces both the art and science of medicine, working with the body, rather than against it, and delivering consistently high clinical outcomes. I now integrate homeopathic medicine alongside my conventional practise, both within the NHS and in the private sector. I have found a way to practise medicine which is highly satisfying both to patient and doctor alike and I would heartily recommend a career in homeopathy.'
The standard of Dr Smyth's work was recognised last year, as he was a finalist in Medic Footprints' ACW Diversified Medic of the Year award category. He is a very active member of the homeopathic community, frequently speaking at health conferences and events, and will be on hand to provide advice and answer questions about homeopathy at the Faculty's second Art of Medicine event in Belfast on 30 August.
