How did you start your journey in Homeopathy?

As a junior hospital doctor I met a German medical student who had trained in Homeopathy as an optional course at medical school in Freiburg. He explained how useful it was for ailments where there isn’t any particularly effective treatment, like recurrent viral infections, painful haemorrhoids, pre-menstrual syndrome etc. The following year as a GP Registrar I started studying Homeopathy at London Homeopathic Hospital and immediately started giving remedies to my patients with exactly those conditions. Despite my inexperience, many of them got surprisingly better. This inspired me so much that the following year I became an SHO in Homeopathy at Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital (GHH) and gained my MFHom in 1995.

How do you integrate Homeopathy into your Practice?

I have practised Homeopathy full time since then, initially in Scotland doing outpatients clinics at GHH and private Homeopathic practice in Glasgow and Edinburgh. In 2002 I moved to Bristol, working one day a week at Bristol Homeopathic Hospital as well as building up a busy private practice in the city. I have studied Homeopathy extensively with many teachers including Jan Scholten, Rajan Sankaran, Massimo Mangialavori, Annette Sneevliet and Jonathan Hardy. I taught Homeopathy on the Faculty courses initially in Scotland and then in Bristol for 25 years until the start of the pandemic. Since 2021 and turning 60, I reduced my workload somewhat and  have integrated some new techniques into my work, including management of Chronic Pain especially using the Internal Family Systems approach. However, Homeopathy remains the bedrock of my work with patients. The joy of a beautifully matching remedy emerging during a consultation and then observing the patient’s ongoing healing process remains one of the greatest rewards.
